DC Classic New Boy In Town, FCH

Wyatt loved to show and is a fabulous lure coursing dog and a great dog to live with.

Wyatt is very much his father’s son, except Wyatt is a much better lure courser! Neil was a hunter, not a lure courser. Wyatt, like Neil, is a very serious dog and usually looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. Wyatt has a history…I sold him twice to two different show homes, his full brother, Beethoven, was the first pick in the litter and lived with us, so we didn’t “need” Wyatt. The first home decided after several months that they were getting out of Whippets, so we bought him back. The second show home let him run loose and chase deer, when I was notified by Whippet Rescue, we ‘repossessed’ him. I again had him sold to another show home, but this time Dean said “NO”. He didn’t want me to sell him again. Dean was adamant that Wyatt kept coming home for a reason as he was supposed to live with us and he loved the dog. So this time Wyatt stayed home. He’s not an affectionate or playful dog, he’s much too serious for such frivolities. But he is extremely devoted to Dean and will sit for hours on the couch next to Dean, wanting nothing more than the close proximity. After a long day of running at trials, Dean will let Wyatt out of the van and he just follows his Dad around and ‘helps’ Dean pull up the pulleys. He would never consider taking off or fraternizing with other dogs as he and his Dad have a job to do. Wyatt is a beautiful and correctly built Whippet with a fabulously long stride when he runs. Many judges misinterpret this as lack of speed or effort since he doesn’t appear to be working hard, but when we point out that he is actually passing the ‘fast moving legs’, the comment is generally, “Oh yeah, I guess he is faster”. Better design results in less work for more speed!
